It’s hard to believe that 2013 is almost over, and 2014 is right around the corner. We have accomplished our list of proposed objectives this year, but still have time left to achieve a few more as we transition into the new year.
Much of my term has been focused on membership engagement and development, specifically striving to keep past leaders and seasoned members involved, while at the same time trying to engage our younger members. Technology is key to achieving this goal. You may have noticed our efforts this year to actively promote and increase activity on our Chapter Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages. We also improved our technology efforts by making electronic copies of meeting handouts available on our website, as well as implementing the option to renew your membership electronically. If there are other technological enhancements you would like to see, please contact me directly. I would enjoy hearing from you.
As we cruise into 2014, our next port of call is the ALA Annual Conference & Exposition in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 19-22, 2014. This conference is the legal management profession’s most comprehensive event of its kind. The Gateway Chapter will once again offer scholarships to eligible chapter members, so please add attendance at this education and networking mosaic to your list of New Year’s resolutions.
Stay tuned for more to come from the Gateway Chapter in 2014. We will have additional opportunities for professional development, community service, networking with members, and connecting with business partners.
President Elect Lisa Waligorski is in the process of rounding out her team that will take the helm of our ship in April. She has some dynamic plans for next year. If you would like to Get On Board her team, please contact Lisa. Volunteers are always welcome.
Enjoy the holiday season and have a safe and Happy New Year!
Your Captain,
Patty Barbachem, CLM
Gateway ALA Chapter President, 2013-2014
