ALA Gateway: Message From The President

The new year has begun, and the Gateway Chapter is in full swing gearing up for its 2024 initiatives.  We have a lot on deck so let’s get started!

WRAPPING UP 2023

2023 Holiday Party - On December 6th, our Chapter members and Business Partners joined together to celebrate the holidays at the St. Louis Zoo! Our event included a delicious lunch and insightful presentation by a seasoned zookeeper who educated us about several of the zoo’s animals, including the positive reinforcement training performed to work with the animals on a daily basis, allowing a safe environment for the handling and welfare of the zoo animals. Thank you to all who donated to our charities, Keyway Center for Diversion and Reentry and All Paws Safe Haven Animal Rescue!

February 28th SAVE THE DATE - We are excited to bring you the Chapter’s first big event of 2024 - our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Workshop and Business Partner Appreciation Event. This event will be held at Hotel St. Louis, 705 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO 63101, on February 28, 2024. The workshop will be from 2:00PM - 4:00PM, followed by our Business Partner Appreciation Event from 4:00PM - 6:00PM. Our Professional Development and Business Partner Appreciation teams are hard at work to bring you top notch event. A special thank you to Business Partner, BigHand, for sponsoring our workshop!   

May 19 - May 22nd - ALA’S 2024 Annual Conference and Expo will be held in Aurora, Colorado at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center. The 2024 conference theme is Discover the Difference. Upcoming Deadlines for Certification Options - ALA is a provider for several notable certifications, including a HR Specialist Certification and a Certified Legal Manager (“CLM”) Certification. If you are interested in registering for the HR 1A Course and HR 1A and 2A Package, or applying for the Spring CLM exam, the deadlines are noted below together with links to register.

SHARE YOUR STORY - ALA wants to hear from you! ALA is looking for members to provide testimonials about what their ALA membership has meant to them. This could include the benefits you use the most, your favorite event you’ve attended, your volunteer experience or any other aspect of the ALA experience. If you’d like to participate, email your thoughts to [email protected], and they may be included in a future email or social media post! Please make sure all testimonials are two to three sentences or 250 characters max.

KUDOS ARE IN ORDER

Congratulations to our Immediate Past-President, Jill O’Connell, for being selected to serve on the 2024 ALA Executive Leadership Summit Planning Committee! ALA’s Executive Leadership Summit takes a deep dive into forward-thinking topics that explore new approaches and insights for members to take back to their firms. 2023 was the first year for the Summit. We are excited to see what the Summit offers us in 2024!

UNTIL NEXT TIME

We have several other big ticket items coming up on 2024, including our Compensation and Benefits Survey, as well as additional quarterly AI workshops with Spencer Smith. Be on the lookout for more information on these topics as well as additional events that are presently in planning stages. Our Board will be changing hands on April 1st, and I know Incoming President, Allison Worley, has a lot of fresh and exciting ideas to share with you!
