Happy International Women’s Day from ALA Gateway

ALA Gateway recognizes that women’s rights are human rights. Amnesty International defines these rights as the right to live free from violence and discrimination, to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, to be educated, to own property, to vote, and to earn an equal wage. While we have come a long way, across the globe many women and girls still face discrimination on the basis of sex and gender, underpinning problems such as domestic and sexual violence, lower pay, lack of access to education, and inadequate healthcare.

We also recognize that the road to equality means turning the tables on gender injustices while also rooting out all forms of oppression in order to solve overlapping forms of discrimination simultaneously.

We hope you will take this opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination, and take whatever action you can to drive gender parity. You may want to visit International Women's Day 2023 (internationalwomensday.com) for details and ideas about how you can make a difference.

Finally, we encourage you take time to learn about the many accomplishments of the women in your life. You may be surprised by the wealth of contributions they are making!

We are so proud to be a part of ALA Gateway, and the larger legal community of strong women making a difference in the lives of others every single day.
